The Root System
One of the greatest advantages of Arabic is its root-based vocabulary. From one root, you can derive dozens of related words. Learning roots multiplies your vocabulary rapidly.
Root Example: ع-ل-م (knowledge)
- عِلْمٌ – knowledge/science
- عَالِمٌ – scholar/scientist
- مَعْلُومَاتٌ – information
- تَعْلِيمٌ – education
- مُعَلِّمٌ – teacher
- مَدْرَسَةٌ – school (from the root د-ر-س)
Topic Vocabulary: Food and Eating
- طَعَامٌ – food | شَرَابٌ – drink
- خُبْزٌ – bread | مَاءٌ – water | حَلِيبٌ – milk
- أَنَا جَائِعٌ – I am hungry | أَنَا عَطْشَانٌ – I am thirsty
