The Root System

One of the greatest advantages of Arabic is its root-based vocabulary. From one root, you can derive dozens of related words. Learning roots multiplies your vocabulary rapidly.

  • عِلْمٌ – knowledge/science
  • عَالِمٌ – scholar/scientist
  • مَعْلُومَاتٌ – information
  • تَعْلِيمٌ – education
  • مُعَلِّمٌ – teacher
  • مَدْرَسَةٌ – school (from the root د-ر-س)

Topic Vocabulary: Food and Eating

  • طَعَامٌ – food  |  شَرَابٌ – drink
  • خُبْزٌ – bread  |  مَاءٌ – water  |  حَلِيبٌ – milk
  • أَنَا جَائِعٌ – I am hungry  |  أَنَا عَطْشَانٌ – I am thirsty
