What is Rounding?
Rounding refers to converting a particular number to an easy number. The rounded number is not exact but an estimate of the given number.
Purpose of Rounding
Usually, we round numbers for:
- Making calculations easy.
- Making the numbers easy to understand and remember.
The 3-Step of Rounding
- Find the target place: Identify the tens digit in your number.
- Check the neighbor: Look immediately to the right at the ones digit.
- Apply the rule:
- If the ones digit is 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4: Round down. Keep the tens digit the same and change the ones digit to zero.
- If the ones digit is 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9: Round up. Increase the tens digit by one and change the ones digit to zero.
