What is Place Value?

Place value tells us the value of a digit based on its position in a number.

Main Places

  • Ones: the last digit.
  • Tens: the second digit from the right.
  • Hundreds: the third digit from the right.
  • Thousands: the fourth digit from the right.
  • Ten thousands: the fifth digit from the right.

How to Solve

  1. Read the digit for each place.
  2. Put each digit in its correct position.
  3. Write the complete number.
Example:
Thousands digit is 4.
Hundreds digit is 7.
Tens digit is 6.
Ones digit is 3.
Correct answer: 4763
Pro-tip:
Start from the biggest place, then move to the smallest place.
